Happy Thanksgiving from Houston DWI Lawyer Paul Darrow

Thanksgiving DWI

The approaching holiday season, with its parties and special events, comes with more drivers on the road who have been drinking. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) tracks alcohol-related car accidents for major holidays. The statistics released in 2010 show that 34 percent of car accidents that occurred over Thanksgiving (during a four-day period) in 2009 were alcohol related.

Even if you are not in an accident, a DWI is unfortunately a gift that keeps on giving long after the turkey and stuffing are gone. At Darrow Law, we have helped so many people whose celebration turned into a nightmare because of a few drinks over the holidays.

According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), nearly 900 people die each year from drunk driving accidents in the period from Thanksgiving to New Year’s. The smartest way to prevent a DWI or alcohol related fatality during Thanksgiving week is by planning ahead.

You know the drill. Before the next glass of wine at the family dinner or a night out with friends at your favorite bar, choose a designated driver and an agreed time to leave so that no one is left to get home on their own.

If you have any alcohol to drink, know that your reaction time is slowed and that you are putting yourself and others at risk if you get behind the wheel. If you have any doubt about your ability to drive, call a cab, a friend or family member or stay where you are.

The defense team at Paul Darrow Law wishes you a safe and happy Thanksgiving. If you do end up needing a Houston DWI or Galveston DWI lawyer during the holidays, hiring an experienced lawyer within two or three days of your arrest is the smartest move you can make.
